10 Things I Have Learned About Myself While In A Cast

A few weeks ago, I did something completely ungraceful, I tripped and then fractured my wrist. In this short time while being in a cast, there are 10 things I have learned about myself .

10 Things I Have Learned About Myself

10 things I have learned about myself while wearing a cast.

  1. My left arm is incredibly weak.
  2. It’s impossible to will my left hand to write legibly.
  3. I seriously miss paper crafting!
  4. I desperately miss knitting.
  5. The novelty of an injury lasts for only about a day with my kids.
  6. Brushing my teeth with my left hand is awkward.
  7. I go through shampoo / conditioner much more quickly when I have to squirt it directly on to my head.
  8. Cutting or slicing food is impossible.
  9. Making dinner is a challenge.
  10. I don’t like asking for help.

It is two weeks today for my cast. This is my first, and hopefully the last, time having a cast so I decided I should get my favorite color. Initially the doctor told me a total of 2 – 3 weeks with the cast. So, when I went in for my follow-up appointment earlier this week, I had this big dream of already getting this cast removed. You can imagine my surprise when he said come back in two weeks!

Apparently the reason behind my appointment this week was to x-ray the area and make sure the broken piece hadn’t shifted. Since the casts are made of fiberglass, the x-ray image can not display healing progress. In two weeks, when I return, they will actually remove the cast for the x-ray. At that time, I am hopeful that the cast will stay off.

Until then, I’m doing what I can while in a cast…without over doing it. You can see here some Mother’s Day cards I was able to create!
