Several years ago I was very proud of the fact that were finally set up with a decent system to listen to music. We have the tuner, DVD Player, and large speakers that sit on the sides of the entertainment center. We even have a CD player. The only problem is that we never use this big system any more. Plus it takes up way too much space.
Since everything has transitioned more and more to digital, we now listen to music through Pandora, Spotify, or our own playlists now more than anything else. With this being the case, we were in need of an upgrade to a good MP3 speaker for our home.
August Audio Fest
This to be August Audio Fest at Best Buy. This is the time of the year when you will find featured deals on audio specials, events & more. It began August 3rd and runs through August 30th.
As part of the Audio Fest campaign, I received the Heos 5 by Denon. This is a wireless multi-room sound system that allows your whole family to enjoy great-sounding music throughout your whole home. You can all enjoy your favorite music using your preferred streaming music service, Internet radio, or your own music collection. It configures right to your iOS, Android or tablet with a free app!
I was so relieved to find out the Heos wireless system configures with both iOS or Android since my husband has the iPhone and I have an Android. I always find it so difficult when it only configures to one system since we are a multi-system family.
I used my husband’s iPhone to set up the Heos 5 since he honestly has a much better playlist than I do! You can configure your Heos to your phone through your home network either wirelessly or plugged in directly to your wireless router. For some reason configuring the Heos to my wireless network through either phone was not working. I had to connect the Heos directly to my wireless router to get it on the network. Once I did that though, I was able to move the Heos into another room and still maintain the network connection. I am sure the initial connection difficulty had something more to do with the room I was putting the Heos in and not that of the speaker.
Once the iPhone app was configured to the Heos 5 we chose to play music from my husband’s Pandora playlist. The sound quality that comes from the Heos is so impressive. I loved that we could totally control the playlist, volume, pause, and play from the app on the iPhone. The other amazing thing is that when I opened the Heos app on my Android, it automatically opened the playlist that was playing from my husband’s iPhone and Heos speaker! I thought it was totally cool that I could control what was on the playlist and the Heos itself from my Android too!
The box with the Heos speaker included all the cords needed to configure you iPhone and Android, including the network cable. The apps that you can stream your favorite music from include, Pandora, Spotify, Deezer, Tunein, Napster, and more.
Here is a little sample of the quality of sound from the Heos. Please forgive the whistling…and the song. Like I said, this was from my husband’s playlist!
The HEOS5 retails for $399.99 and is ideal for medium to large rooms such as dining rooms, larger bedrooms, offices or smaller living rooms. The HEOS3 ($299.98) is ideal for smaller rooms, such as bedrooms or bathrooms. While the HEOS7 ($599.98) is ideal for large spaces, such as living rooms, great rooms; etc.
They are all very easy to move around the home. In fact, I am excited that we finally have a good way to play music outdoors when we are hanging out on the patio!
