It’s time for our monthly blog hop again. Unfortunately, I missed out on the hop for July 1st. Apparently, I was way too caught up in celebrating the summer! I waited until the last minute to get a project together and write a post, so I ran out of time. June is a very busy month for our family with school just ending for summer break and swim team for the kids in full swing. Getting into a routine that fits with the kids schedule is always a challenge.
Celebrating The Summer
How are you celebrating the summer this year? It seems the summer is going way too fast for us. I cannot believe it’s already August 1st. Swim team practice starts each year after school the week of Memorial Day. Then, once school is out, practice is bright and early Monday – Friday and the swim meets begin.
The six weeks of swim team always go by so quickly. By the time swim team is over, I always feel like school is not too far off for the kids. This year seems to be flying past more quickly than usual.
Blogging Friends Blog Hop
Today marks the 11th month of our Blogging Friends Blog Hop. Time flies when you’re having fun! The theme for August is “Taste of Tropics”. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t have anything necessarily tropical, although I do have summer with tropical colors!
Swirly Bird Stamp Set
I love the versatility of the Swirly Bird Stamp Set, along with the Swirly Scribble Thinlits. There are 24 stamps in this one set! I used a couple of newer colors from the 2016 – 18 In Color Collection. Specifically Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo for the cardstock and flower tops. I used Old Olive for the flower stems. The embossing was done with the Lovely Lace embossing folder on Whisper White Cardstock. The ribbon color is Flirty Flamingo. Lastly, I used Wink of Stella on the yellow swirl (sun) and flower stems.
I am really pleased with how well this card turned out! The colors are so fun to work with…as is this set.
Speaking of the Swirly Bird Stamp Set, there is one other card I created with this set.
I have a confession to make regarding this card though. Initially, I had not intended to include the smaller swirls on the right side of the card or the rhinestones. However, 45 minutes after inking the word congratulations, I picked up the card without realizing the word was still wet. Black ink got on my fingers, which made smudges on my card.
I didn’t want to have to throw out this card after all the work I had put in it, I added a few things to hide the black smudges.
I love matching envelopes to the cards I create. Since Stampin’ Up! retired my beloved Envelope Liner Framelits, I’ve started using other techniques to do the coordination.
For this card, I used a combination of different yellows, Crushed Curry, So Saffron, and Daffodil Delight. The leaves are stamped in Emerald Envy. The base of the card is in Whisper White Thick Cardstock. I did use a retired DSP, Go Wild, for the middle layer.
