One of my biggest joys in life is finding a book that I can lose myself in. I can remember even as a young girl loving to curl up with a good book. That passion for reading has never wavered. There are so many books I’ve enjoyed over the years. I used to get stuck in one genre and not want to stray too far from it. However, I now enjoy more variety and read a much wider range of book genres, such as thriller / mystery, dystopian, young-adult, fantasy, Christian, and self-help.
Curl Up With A Good Book
Most recently I have been reading a book series called Darkest Minds. This series definitely pulls you in and leaves you wanting more. It is a series written by Alexandra Bracken and consists of 3 books, with 3 novella’s between books 1 and 2, 2 and 3, and after 3. The 3 novella’s are all available in one book called “Through The Dark”. I found out this series is slated to be made into a movie by Fox and 21 Laps Production Company. Books are normally so much better than the movie, I’m glad I’ve already read the books.
The Darkest Minds series centers around several main characters, Ruby, Liam, Chubs, and Zu. There is a disease break-out that effects all kids ages 10 and above. Those who do not die from it, manifest parapsychological (PSI) powers, such as telekinesis and mind-control. Those kids are sent to a government run “rehab” camps. However, you soon find out there is not any rehab for this disease.
I used to be a Kindle nay-sayer. However, over the past couple of years having a Kindle has enabled me to read more and more books. I’ve come to appreciate the convenience of being able to throw it in my purse or tote without causing too much extra weight. Plus, I love having a never-ending supply of books to read. For me, there is nothing worse than finishing up a book and not having another one ready to go.
Audio books is another way I have begun getting through some of the books on my to read list. These are books that have looked interesting, but I have not necessarily wanted to take the time to read them. One of my favorite types of books to listen to is self-help books. Although I think I may experiment with some fiction too.
Two of my biggest pitfalls are organization and easily distracted. Both of these traits make me unproductive. The two books above are helpful in overcoming some obstacles that come along with being unorganized and distractibility.
What format do you prefer your books to be in? Do you have a favorite genre?
