Declutter Small Spaces Recycle Old DVDs and CDs

We live in a small home, and since space is of the essence I like to keep our living space as free from clutter as possible.  We bought our home almost 10 years ago. We felt it was a great “starter” home that we would only be in for about five years. It was the perfect size for me and my husband and our baby Megan. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, living room, family room, kitchen and dining area. It has a cathedral ceiling, so the living room has great open space.

Declutter Small Spaces

Megan is now 9 and we also now have the twins who are 5 years old. We do not have a basement, so our living space can get quite congested between the five of us and all of the kid’s “stuff”. What has helped, at least give the appearance of organization, is the Elfa Shelving from the Container Store. We have had great luck with their units, and I love having a place for everything that does not involve taking up floor space. Also, going through the kid’s things at least once or twice a year definitely helps to declutter small spaces. There are so many different things the kids can outgrow within a one-year timespan, such as toys, games, and even DVDs.

Recycle Old DVDs and CDs

Our kids really seem to outgrow their electronic games more quickly than anything else. Last year on the Wii the popular game for our twins may have been Dora, but this year they are “too old” for Dora! There are several Wii games we have that the kids loved when we first got them, but have not been played with now for a very long time. I always have a hard time knowing what to do with their outgrown games, CDs and DVDs. Since being introduced to musicmagpie.com, I have learned of some great ways to get rid of those items.  This company is a place where you can list your items and sell them, trade them in, or recycle them. I love the concept of being able to recycle old dvds and cds! You also have the liberty of being able to sell your games on their site for multiple systems.

Recycling your CDs and DVDs and their cases is a great way to keep all that plastic, and other materials, out of our landfills. Anything that I can do to save our environment is worth it. Plus at MusicMagpie, they pay for all of the shipping. To get started, you scan in your product barcodes, print off the paid shipping label that can be sent to you via email or traditional mail, attach it to the box and it’s done!

Having a place to send all of those

How do you create space in your small spaces? I would love to hear from you!

It’s been years now since my son was little, but I remember all the toys, etc. that he had outgrown. We are fortunate enough to have a video store nearby that will pay you for any videos and music that you want to resell. I’ve never heard of musicmagpie.com, but it too sounds like a wonderful way to not only make a few extra bucks, but to save items from going to the landfill. For everything else, I would highly recommend donating to a church or goodwill for families with little or no extra cash.
