Dragonfly Dreams Watercolor Card Using Emboss Resist

I have been having so much fun trying out different watercolor techniques lately! Today’s card features the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set from Stampin’ Up using an emboss resist technique for the watercoloring.

I really love how this card turned out! I think the dragonfly set on top of the watercolored background creates a beautiful, but simple card.

For this card, I used Dapper Denim for the card base, then added a layer of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock. Using Shimmery White Cardstock, I embossed the dragonfly with White Embossing Powder. I then used ink pads in Dapper Denim, Daffodil Delight, and Sweet Sugarplum with an Aqua Painter to create the background.

After I blended the colors with the Blender Pen, I then went over it with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. I’m not sure how well you can see it, but there is a shimmer to the top of the card – over the watercolor and dragonfly.

To create the watercolor effect, prior to opening the ink pads, I squeezed the the ink pads so I would get ink on the inside of the ink pad cover. I then opened each ink pad, displaying the inked inside lid. Using the Aqua Painter, I made sure the tip was wet…but not too wet. I then proceeded to pick up color with the Aqua Painter and brush it onto the card.

The embossed area of the card automatically resists the watercolor. I love it!
