I admit, I have never been a big breakfast person. However, over the past several months I have been really paying attention to my eating habits. I have realized how much better I eat throughout the day when I do eat a healthy breakfast.
Upon finding out my diagnosis of high cholesterol in December, I have really changed my eating habits to low fat and high fiber. I have lost 11 pounds with this diet change alone! One of my favorite things for breakfast is a good tasting breakfast cereal. Although, I do have to admit I do not like putting any milk in my cereal. I do not like the way it makes it mushy!
I was really excited to try out Post’s new Honey Bunches of Oats Morning Energy cereal that is packed with whole grain, protein and fiber. It comes in two delicious flavors: Cinnamon Crunch and Chocolatey Almond Crunch.
The first cereal that the kids clamored for was the Chocolately Almond Crunch. My kids, and myself, are all over anything chocolate. This cereal had the perfect combination of whole grain flakes and granola clusters, almond sliver and chocolate chunks. The chocolate adds just the right amount of sweetness, without overdoing it.
The Chocolately Almond Crunch cereal contains 6 grams of protein per serving, and 10 grams of protein per serving when combined with a half-cup of fat free milk. You will also get a heart healthy dose of fiber with each serving – 5 grams to be exact.
Next we moved on to the Cinnamon Crunch. This has all the great nutrition as the Chocolately Almond Crunch, but with a taste all its own. This cereal has the whole grain flakes, but with little clusters of cinnamon. It provides the perfect balance of flavors.
My kids are not big fans of cinnamon, but my husband and I were very impressed with this cereal and enjoyed our morning energy with a bowlful of Cinnamon Crunch.
Now that I eat breakfast on a regular basis, I notice I do not snack nearly as much as I used to. Nor do I over eat when it comes to lunchtime. I also know that I have a lot more energy when I start my day off right.
Which of these two New cereals would you like to try first? Cinnamon Crunch or Chocolatey Almond Crunch?
