In January, I saw a post from a fellow Stampin’ Up Demonstrator about bringing back Birthday Cards. During the holidays, she saw many Christmas cards posted on Facebook instead of mailing them out. She noted Birthday Cards had already gone this route years ago. However, now that it was beginning with holiday cards, she wanted to do something about it.
She proceeded to post something on Facebook asking if any of her friends would like her to receive a birthday card. To her dismay, within 2 days, she had 300 requests. By February 10th, the requests grew to 1,327.
Social media, especially Facebook, has taken the personalization out of birthdays, holidays, and handwritten notes in general. I believe, the fact that she has had so many requests, just proves that people miss getting personalized cards in the mail. Our society has changed so much with the convenience of social media and technology. We really do not communicate the way we used to at all any more.
Hello My Friend Handmade Card
For the past couple of years I have been sending out homemade Christmas cards. Grant it, I have not been sending as many as I did when it was just the postcards, but I really enjoy the personalization. This year I sent out my cards late, after the New Year. It actually worked out a little better since I felt like I not only felt I could take the time to send out more cards, but also write a bit more.
I want to make more of an effort to send out cards, not only for holidays and birthdays, but also thinking of you, sympathy, congratulations, and thank you.
I created this card using two (2) stamp sets that are currently available throughout Sale-A-Bration. The first stamp set I used for the flowers is one I’ve already highlighted in a previous post, Grateful Bunch, which is in the Occasions Catalog. The second stamp sent I used is called “Hello”. This stamp set I got for free from the Sale-A-Bration catalog because my order was at least $50.
I used the colors Basic Black, Mellon Mambo, and Whisper White for this card. I love the way it turned out!
The inspiration for this design came from this weeks Mojo Monday card sketch challenge, #436.
I enjoy participating in their card sketches since it exposes me to so many amazing design ideas.

What are your thoughts on sending traditional cards. Would you go back to sending cards the traditional way, or are you one of the few who never switched over to digital greetings in the first place?
