Decorating Kids Bedrooms

Over the past year we have been working on moving the kids into different bedrooms.  In the process of doing the room switches we have also been decorating kids bedrooms.  Anna and Ethan have shared a room since they were born, and Megan has had her own room.  Then in November of last year Megan decided she did not like being the only one without a roommate so she moved into the room with them.

It was a tight fit with with 2 toddler beds already in the room but then we brought Megan twin bed in there!  They slept in the room like that until we finally got Megan old room painted and moved Ethan’s Safari jeep bed in there.  So now Ethan has his own room and then Megan and Anna share a bedroom.

Megan’s old bedroom was a Disney purple color, luckily we bought paint with a primer in it so it only took one coat to cover.  We painted the room a beige tone since we were given a jeep safari bed that someone made by hand.  It is a very cool bed!  They also gave us all the matching pieces that went with it which were handmade as well.  Two bookshelves, an elephant cork board and a parrot peg board.

I cannot seem to find a picture that was taken of Megan’s room that is not close-up.  This picture was actually taken 3 years ago, the night of Megan’s 6th birthday.  It gives you an idea though on how bright purple the paint was – it actually looked better in person.  :-)

Below are the pictures of the room now, with Ethan’s new bed.

I do have a couple final touch-ups that need to be made to Ethan’s bedroom.  He needs new curtains since the one’s in there are still from Megan and have flowers on them.  I need to purchase room-darkening curtains though since he gets all of the sun in the morning.  First I need to start shopping for new curtain poles since what I currently have up there is not really meant to hold curtains.

Kids Bedroom Wall Decals

Lastly, I had bought some kids bedroom wall decals that will go under Ethan’s window.  I bought some safari animal wall decals that I thought would go nicely with the decor.  I am currently working with those in Megan and Anna’s room – they look really nice, but are a little bit of work to rub off onto the wall!  Wall decals are a great invention though, so great with adding nice decorating touches.

When I am completely done with both bedrooms, I will post pictures!

  2. Love the BED so cute!!! The room looks great and enjoyed the post. I am ready to move my daughter into another rm and cant decide yet what to do.

    • Thank you Paula! We bought bunk beds for the girls and since they both like fairies, I am doing a couple things with fairies. I’m trying to keep in minimal though since Megan is 9, she will be too “old” for some of the cutesy stuff. :-)

      • Just an idea, because I deal with the same thing. My girls are 12,11,& 7. I did the younger two’s room in a pale green and used wall stickers of fairies so that if they outgrow it I can just change it up. All of their bedding is just different colors so that everything matches in a non matching way. It really makes it a “cool” girls room that can grow with them for years to come. My oldest has pink walls and everything in her room is pink and orange.

  3. I am so loving that zebra bed. You did a great job on your sons room!

  8. Oh my gosh – that bed is so cool! My five year old has that Little Tikes racecar bed that he got passed down from his big brother, but there isn’t really much of a theme to his room. My eight year old has a cowboy theme up in his room, but he’s starting to outgrow it now……sigh.
