No Dirty Dishes Day Celebration – Today: May 18, 2017

Are you one who allows the dishes to pile up in the sink? Here’s the day to forego that habit – it’s No Dirty Dishes Day!

No Dirty Dishes Day

How do you celebrate this day? There are a couple ways to not have any dirty dishes – eat out or have a BBQ using paper plates and plastic wear.

Where did No Dirty Dishes Day originate? Unfortunately the origin is unknown. However, there is some speculation that it was teen who created the day to get out of doing dishes!

My take on No Dirty Dishes Day:

I think part of not having to wash dishes is also water conservation. So if you can’t not wash dishes today, then clean them the most conservative way. A way that uses the least amount of water. Perhaps filling both sides of the sink with water, one with dish soap and the other with no soap for rinsing. The other suggestion would be to run the dishwasher once at the end of the day using the setting that conserves the most water.

You can also celebrate the day by making environmentally friendly Dishwasher Detergent. The recipe below is for a half batch of detergent. My oldest has used up most of my Baking Soda for concocting slime.

  • 1/2 Cup Borax
  • 1/2 Cup Baking Soda
  • 10 drops Lemon Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Citrus Fresh Essential Oil

Simply mix all the ingredients together and place in jar. I used 2 tablespoons of the mix for a full load of dishes.

I use Young Living Essential Oils. To learn more about becoming a Young Living Customer, you can go here. When I don’t make my own detergent, I buy Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent.

Have you ever heard of No Dirty Dishes Day? If so, how do you celebrate it? If not, do you plan to celebrate? How?
