This Protect Hair From Chlorine and Sun Naturally post is sponsored by Fairy Tales. I did receive products mentioned below to facilitate this post. All opinions are 100% my own.
How do you protect hair from chlorine and the sun? This summer, not unlike previous summers, the kids were at the pool every day. With all three kids on swim team exposed to chlorine and sun every day, I want to protect their young hair from damage. Our adult hair can feel the same effects by just being out in the sun every day watching our kids.
Damage caused by the chlorine and sun include, dryness, brittleness, split ends, and color change. Some may see color change as a positive, but in actuality, it is caused by the damaging effects of chlorine on the melanin in hair. Also, chlorine strips hair of its natural lubricant that protects hair called sebum.
Protect Hair From Chlorine and Sun
Fairy Tales, a brand of hair care products, recently introduced me to their line to protect hair from chlorine and sun. Here is a little information on how I was first introduced to the Fairy Tales brand. A few months ago, my kids were diagnosed with head lice. Yuck, right? It was a bit of a shocker for me too. Due to going through this lice remediation, I learned more about these little critters than I ever wanted to know. However, in the process, I was introduced to Fairy Tales brand and their line of natural prevention of lice.
Given that I had already become familiar with the Fairy Tales organic products, I was excited to learn about their products formulated to protect hair from chlorine. The three products I was sent for chlorine treatment were the following:
Lifeguard Clarifying Shampoo: This product is made of natural citrus extracts that gently removes chlorine, sea salt, and minerals. It is designed to not only cleanse hair, but also soften and hydrate it. This shampoo is paraben and sulfate-free. It is good for mom’s hair too, since it color-safe. You can smell the citrus extracts of orange flower and pineapple that leaves hair yummy smelling . This shampoo has worked wonders on my kid’s hair. Their hair feels so much more soft now. It was feeling really dry with all the chlorine and sun exposure, but not any more.
Lemon-Aid Conditioner: We love this conditioner. Not only has it helped to remove all the chlorine from their hair, but it has really helped with detangling. We have always used a detangler in our kid’s hair, but there still seems to be an awful lot of tangles. This is one of the first detangling conditioners we have used that really works. It contains all the same natural ingredients of the shampoo as well.
Coco Cabana Sun Spray: This product is enriched with banana leaf extracts and coconut oil to condition, protect and revive sun-drenched hair. This can be sprayed on wet or dry hair. Since it protects hair from the sun, it is great for spraying on your kids hair before spending the day outside. I swear this spray detangles too, even though there is no mention of that. It has the wonderful scent of coconuts that make you can feel like you have been out on the beach all day. For those with allergies, this product does not contain any nut oil, dairy, gluten or soy.
We were also sent a bottle of Fairy Tales Bug Bandit. This is their DEET-free bug repellant that is pesticide-free and non-toxic. It uses the natural ingredients of lemon eucalyptus, soybean oil, rosemary, and citronella to effectively ward of bugs. You can smell the eucalyptus and citronella, but it is not overwhelming. I do not like using bug spray on my kids that contains harmful chemicals, so this is perfect. I brought this spray up to the pool every night the kids had a swim meet to keep the mosquitos away. We experienced a lot of rain here in June, so the mosquitos were quite ruthless come July. I was so happy with the results and effectiveness this spray was able to provide for my family and me. I actually used it to spray other swimmers as well!
