The past few days here in Illinois have been rather cool, compared to the weather we have had this whole summer. This summer has been HOT! We have had many, many days in the 100′s and 90′s but now for the past few days it has been in the 70′s during the day. This morning when we woke up it was actually in the upper 50′s! The good thing is that we have finally been getting some rain so things are greening up again. We had a very dry summer which has been devastating to many trees and plants so it has been great to hear the sound of rain.
At the beginning of Spring we were given a fire pit, but have only used it two times since it has been way too hot to use it. Now that the weather has cooled off my husband and I have gotten the itch to put the fire pit to use. So the other day my husband went and bought all the makings for S’mores which really made the kids excited! However, it started pouring outside before we even got the pit lit up – and then my husband got called in to work at the fire department.
Oven Baked S’mores
The kids still wanted their s’mores though. Right after the rain stopped my younger daughter Anna asked if i could go light the fire pit since it was not raining any more. I had to tell her no. First of all the wood is all wet, second I do not light the fire pit – my husband does. I do not really like messing around with fire. Since we could not use the fire pit for s’more making, I decided to make some oven baked s’mores! The kids did not really care how they were made, they just wanted to eat them! They turned out really good! Below is how I baked s’mores in the oven.
Ingredients
- Graham Crackers
- Marshmallows
- Hershey's Chocolate
Instructions
- Start by pre-heating the oven to 400 degrees.
- Lay out your your graham crackers.
- Put one marshmallow in the center of each graham cracker.
- Bake for 5 minutes - marshmallow's should be golden brown.
- Put 1 - 2 rectangles of chocolate on each marshmallow, pressing down just a bit.
- Put other half of graham cracker on the top to make a sandwich.
- Enjoy!
