11 Small Bedroom Decorating Ideas on a Budget to Create Space

Small Bedroom Decorating Ideas on a Budget

Putting together a decorating scheme can be rather daunting, especially when you are dealing with the size and financial restrictions. It’s actually not too difficult to do though. Here are several small bedroom decorating ideas on a budget:

1. Put out a vase of fresh or silk flowers/floral greenery:

This is extremely easy to do and you don’t have to be a design wizard to create floral arrangements. Just find a pretty vase, glass or jar – if you don’t have one on hand they’re extremely cheap to buy. Then buy a handful of pretty silk or plastic flowers and greenery. There’s no mystery to buying these either, simply choose greenery that you like, and flowers that complement the colors in your room.

The colors don’t have to match exactly either. If you find beautiful silk white flowers for instance, and your room is primarily decorated in blue, then add a sprig of small blue flowers to the white ones and they’ll enhance the room perfectly.

2. Color:

Make your space look larger by sticking with white as your main color, then use black as a secondary color. The white will invoke peace and tranquility, while the black will give you some visual balance and energize the space.

This monochromatic look can be complemented with minimalistic appeal with the use of photos or a wall-mounted practical desk.

3. Hanging Lights:

Using hanging lights creates the illusion of a bigger space since it raises your focal point. They also do not take up any floor or side table space.

4. Hike it Up:

Raise the bed off the floor and utilize the space below! Again, with a small space, being simplistic is best. The thin side rails and frame of this bed makes it look less clunky, adding the feeling of spaciousness. Also, the space below the bed creates a great usable area.

5. Change the Nightstand:

I love this alternate nightstand, using a painted step stool. As you can see below, the first step can be used to hold some books or other things you may want to keep bedside. Also, the floating shelf above the bed provides extra storage and can be used rather than a headboard.

 6. Corner Bed:

Placing your bed tight in the corner allows you to maximize space. If you include a generous amount of throw pillows, it can double as cozy corner seating. Adding some shelving above the bed not only allows you to use wall space but also allows you to accessorize the area that best suits you in your comfortable space.

7. Corner Deck / Shelving:

Make use of your corners by installing floating shelves. There can be a lot of wasted space in the corners, so using it for shelving is the perfect solution to maximize wall space, without taking up floor space.

8. Lighten and Thin Out:

The all-white decor makes the room feel spacious. It opens the room up and lightens it up. Also, using a classic thin bed frame takes up a lot less space adding to the roominess.

9. Change the Bedding:

Stick with a palette of tones in the same color family, but add a small print or texture to the bedspread. You can add small print or texture with throw pillows, or a textured throw. The light-to-mid tones help to visually expand the space.

10. Create a Focal Point:

The Moroccan rug not only solves a space issue if you don’t have room for a headboard, but it also creates a focal point for your room.

Creating a focal point with a unique headboard takes the focus off the size of the room. In this respect, it does make the room appear more spacious. This is also a great way to refresh the space.

11. Storage Solutions:

There are so many storage solutions for small spaces. Built-in shelving, especially into somewhat unusable space, can be a great way to provide off the floor storage.

Instead of a side table, how about a small floating shelf to hold those items you like to keep close to you at night? Using the shelf for your phone, clock, kleenex, or glass of water is a great space saver.

Don’t you just love this small stacked shelf unit? It is small but so useful with all the multiple shelves. This particular unit is available at Ikea, as the LACK Wall Shelf Unit. With this particular unit, you can leave it as is, or add some color to it with paint or contact paper.

Sometimes, living in a small space can be frustrating, but with some intentional thought behind the decor you can not only create more space but make it appear more spacious. I hope these solutions help you with your small space!

Are there any solutions you have used to help with your small space?
