Balancing Work and Family Life While Maintaining Your Sanity

Balancing work and family life isn’t easy. Trying to please your employer and keep your family happy is one thing that no one is perfect at. It can be even more challenging if you work from home. There, you have no separation of work and family life. It’s important to have a goal in mind for balancing the work and family life. Here are five tips to help you with this balancing act.

Balancing Work and Family

1. Acknowledge You Need Help One of the only ways to balance work and family life is to admit that you need help. No one is perfect at being an employee and no one is perfect at being a parent. To make this work, you need to acknowledge when you need help.

2. Create a Week by Week Plan If one thing is for certain, it is that your week will not always go as planned. It’s still important to create a week by week plan for your life. Write down the basics, like what’s for dinner, where the kids are headed for practice, and what needs done to help get you ready for the work week. Having a plan is always a good thing.

3. Know When to Avoid Technology Technology can keep us from focusing on what matters. If you’re at home with the kids and your phone keeps buzzing, you are not going to stay focused. Make sure you know when to avoid technology to help you stay focused on what matters. You can also set aside specific times for when you will answer your phone. This helps you also stay focused on one thing at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed.

4. Set Your Priorities In your mind you have to know what your priorities are at all times. This is one part of working and having a family that’s important and you need to get it figured out right away. There’s a saying that “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” Make sure you know where your priorities stand, so you don’t fall when the going gets tough. Write them down, it helps to have that reminder!

5. Concentrate on One Thing at a Time Last but not least, make sure you’re focusing on one thing at a time. Balancing work and family is hard enough when you’re trying to balance everything at once. Try not to stress out about the housework when it’s time to spend quality time with the kids. Don’t worry about work when you’re with your kids. The key here is to stay focused on the task at hand!
