Dinner Recipe Idea For Kids – Walking Taco Recipe

Have you ever heard of “Walking Taco’s”? I hadn’t until a couple of years ago at a summer swim team meet. My kids swim on the team at our pool each summer. For our home meets, our pool has a concession stand that offers candy, grilled hot dogs, grilled hamburgers, and many other items for hungry swimmers and their families. Apparently, Walking Tacos are are a huge hit with kids and adults alike.

Dinner Recipe Idea That Kids Will Love!

I have to admit, I actually really love walking tacos. Not only it is very tasty, but it’s super easy to make. For the genuine version of Walking Tacos, you would need individual serving size bags (snack size) of Frito Chips. However, since I was serving this at home, I layered the Frito’s on the bottom of the bowl.

My kids enjoy this different way of eating a taco-like dinner. Not only is it a somewhat different taste, but it is not nearly as messy. In addition to all that, it’s just fun!

Walking Tacos

Walking Tacos

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning
  • Frito Snack Bags
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Sour Cream (or Plain Greek Yogurt)

  1. Brown ground beef so there is no more pink, then season according to packet instructions.
  2. Break up Fritos in the bottom of the snack bags.
  3. Spoon in a layer of seasoned ground beef.
  4. Layer with additional toppings of your choice and enjoy!

If you prefer to use a large bag of Frito's, put one or two handfuls of chips into a ziplock bag to crush. Then pour into the bottom of the bowls. Layer with rest of the ingredients to taste.

It’s funny to see so many people, adults and kids, walking around with bags of Fritos at the pool. However, they do sell out of it every time it is one of the entrees being offered. It is actually a very convenient meal at this type of venue.

I like to add it to our menu when I know we’re going to have a busy night. We do not necessarily take it with us, but I like the quick cooking and clean up. Plus, I know it’s a meal that I won’t have any objections to eating. My twins are such picky eaters, it really does drive me nuts!
