Family Christmas Traditions That Carry On Through The Years

While growing up there were a few family Christmas traditions that we did each year. Each year we would go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and then open one present before going to bed. That one present was always new pajamas.

Receiving those pajamas every each year was something I was always looked forward to, and one I couldn’t wait to do someday with my kids. My day finally came in 2003. Yup, that’s the year Megan was born. I’m pretty sure I even started that first year. She was only five months old!

The pajama tradition got even more fun over the years with the birth of Anna and Ethan in 2007. Then, a few years ago, the kids started buying pajamas for me to open on Christmas Eve!

My mom started some traditions of her own with her grandchildren. Each child has a Christmas ornament collection that she began when they were born. Megan has two collections, a Marquis by Waterford Crystal Snowflake collection, as well as a Lenox Tinker Bell collection. Each year a new item is released into these collections. The Snowflakes have the year on them, while Tinker Bell’s year is on her box.

For Ethan, my mom started a train collection by Marquis for him. The trains in his collection are so amazing! I would’ve never thought that train can come in such amazing colors with so much sparkle.

My mom started a Lenox Disney Princess collection for Anna. We are such huge Disney fans here. The princesses are such a beautiful addition to our Christmas Tree.

Each year our tree gets more and more sparkly with the additional  decorations from each collection. I am also already getting excited about our Christmas Eve pajamas coming up next week! I can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they open their gifts.

Do you have traditions you practice each Christmas with your family? I would love to hear about them!
