Fun Family Activities To Celebrate Autumn

The other day I received an email from a blogging group I belong to called The Sits Girls regarding a back to blogging writing challenge. Although I have not necessarily strayed from blogging, I feel that I’ve become somewhat stagnant in my choice of topics. I thought having a week of writing prompts would allow me stretch my wings.

Today’s writing prompt is writing about the fun family activities you enjoy during during autumn.

Fun Family Activities For The Family

Our favorite family activities during this time of year are very local to us. However, there may be things that are comparable in your area!

Our park district has an Indian Summer Festival each year at the end of September. This festival is held a local park that we can either drive to or take a hayride to from the park district. Since the park district is within walking distance from us, we walk to the park district and then take the hayride. The hayride is always a lot of fun for everyone!

Once at the festival, there is always a ton of stuff for the kids to do. We like the “Build Your Own Scarecrow” by bringing old clothes to stuff with hay. There is also a giant slide, face painting, pony rides, trackless train, crafts, a magician performance, and more. We usually spend the whole day at the festival. To me, it is always the first fall event that gets me in the spirit of things … including Halloween!

We also like to go to Morton Arboretum in the fall. This is a local destination with 1,700 acres of ground and holds more than 222,000 live plants. They have a gorgeous children’s area here, several paths to hike on or ride bikes, as well as educational courses. During the fall they off a Scarecrow Walk throughout October. This is a beautiful place to visit when all the leaves are changing colors.

One other place we make a point of visiting each fall is our local zoo – Brookfield Zoo. Each year they have an event called Boo! At The Zoo. Kids go in costume there, and they have a ton of activities planned for the whole family.

  1. That’s a nice idea, I’d love to spend such a lovely day like you suggest with my family 🙂 I also have a zoo near my neighborhood, and I wonder if they’ll celebrate it like in Brookfield Zoo…
