Kitchen Table Moments #ShareWhatsGood with Welch’s Contest #MC

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Welch’s. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

It is not very often that you will find all of us in the house at the same time. Between the three jobs my husband works, the children’s school and activities we are usually waving as we pass each other in the door way! More often than not, you will find me with the three kids at home or at one of their activities.

The one time we are generally in a position to have a conversation together is at dinnertime. Grant it this may be without my husband, but it is definitely the kids and I. It is usually during that time we actually have time to talk and discuss what is going on at school and with friends. Anna and Ethan are really excited about kindergarten so they enthusiastically talk about all their new friends. While Megan, who is now if 5th grade, is usually telling me about schoolwork or something they learned that day.

We tend to do much better with spontaneity when it comes to all five of us being together. Which is rather strange, since I have never been a huge fan of last minute things. It stresses me out a bit! I like having things planned and organized. But, when it comes to having children “last minute” seems to be more of the norm.

I will give you a prime example of having to switch our plans at the last minute. We live in Chicago and are huge Chicago Blackhawks fans, so of course were super excited when the Hawks won the Stanley Cup this year. I am sure against better judgment, we decided to go downtown and see the parade with the Hawks and the Stanley Cup. Every thing was going quite smoothly up until it was time to return home.

Apparently everyone decided to leave at the same time from downtown on the train. This is something we had not taken into consideration when planning our trip. There ended up being a virtual mob at the train station so we had to make some quick plans to kill some time to catch a later train.

Our change in plans brought us to a boat ride down the Chicago River for a tour of the city that ended near “The Bean” at Millennium Park. I have to admit; it is the spontaneous moments like these that tend to end up being the most fun.

  1. Oh my – it must have been some kind of crazy madhouse for that parade. But I’m sure that the memories from the day will be something you talk about for years to come!

  2. Jenna Wood says:

Unfortunately, the coupon seems to be out of prints now, but the contest is still going with some great entries. I love seeing a glimpse of those unplanned family moments. I agree, it’s the unexpected plans that always seem the most meaningful!

  3. Grace Hodgin says:

Sounds fun and I have often found that sometimes having to make a change of plans have always turned out to be the most fun and great memory makers. I’ll check out the contest.

  4. I love the impromptu moments in life! I also love it when everything is planned out and I have everything I need……but yes, some of the best memories are when we just did something on the fly.

  5. I love spontaneous moments too! It’s so much fun.

  6. there is nothing better than quaity family time

  7. Sounds like you all had a fun time!

  8. I’ll have a great opportunity to catch some of these great moments with my kids this weekend.
