Being able to lower belly fat, also called a muffin top, can be quite challenging, but it is not impossible. I do not know about you, but the first place I gain weight is in my mid-section, which is also the place I lose weight last. Do you find that the last place for weight loss also?

Other calcium-rich foods include low fat or fat-free milk, cheese, and yogurt. Green veggies are another great source for calcium such as kale and spinach. There are some fish that contain high amounts of calcium as well, such as sardines and salmon.

2. Whole grains – Oatmeal  helps to lower cholesterol and is actually on the top of the list of whole grains. This is specifically referring to whole rolled oats, not the microwaveable packages. Eating a 3/4 cup serving at breakfast can keep you full throughout the morning, since it a whole grain and does take longer for the body to digest.

3. Berries – Berries have long been touted as having a high level of antioxidants in them. They help your body repair itself, ward off any hint of aging, contain a lot of dietary fiber. Fiber actually helps to remove fat by clinging to it as it passes through your digestive system..cool right? One other great thing about Berries? It also contains something called “Anthocyanins”, which may actually help you burn belly fat more quickly.

4. Yogurt – Eating yogurt is a great way to get in your protein. There are several different brands to choose from that are plain and low-fat or fat free. You can always sweeten your plain yogurt naturally by adding berries and some honey. Yogurt contains calcium and live cultures that helps to improve your digestive system. I love eating plain low-fat yogurt with honey and chia seeds. Chia Seeds not only help to reduce food cravings, but also offer a whole host of other benefits as well!

5. Green vegetables – Green vegetables are a great source of nutrition. They are chock full of fiber and have very few calories. Instead of using iceberg lettuce for our salads, we use spinach or mixed spring. Add some green beans or broccoli to any meal to give it a metabolic boost. To get the greatest nutritional value, choose either fresh or frozen vegetables over canned.

6. Heart-healthy fats – Your body does need you to eat some fat since it utilized. However, you want to choose the right fats. You want to avoid saturated fats but seize monounsaturated fats. You can find monounsaturated fats in nuts, such as walnuts and almonds. It can also be found in cold water fish, avocados, olive oil, and dark chocolate. Your body uses fat in the sheath that covers nerves and in membrane cells. Making poor choices on what fats you ingest will add to belly problems.

Of course eating right is only half of what will help you shed the extra weight and lose the mid-section. You will also want to eat smart and exercise to continue weight loss and keep it off.
