Recycle Your Electronics at Best Buy

recycle your electronicsFor quite sometime now, I have been watching what we do with our household waste. We recycle everything that we can, I compost everything that I can, and I watch what I use in my sink, tub, dishwasher and washing machine. Everything that we do effects our environment. From putting additional chemicals into our water supple, to filling landfills. Did you know that technology is the fastest growing waste stream on the planet?

Recycle Your Electronics

We personally have some old electronics that we need to dispose of safely. But know how and where to dispose of technology can be one of the biggest challenges. We should never just throw it in the garbage can with the rest of the trash. One thing I recently discovered is you can recycle your electronics at Best Buy! They actually recycle 387 pounds of electronics each minute their stores are open. Isn’t that crazy?!  Best Buy recycles your electronic products for free in every Best Buy location in Puerto Rico and the U.S.

One of the items we have been holding onto for a very long time, because we have not know what to do with it, is an old laptop from about 10 years ago! It is a dinosaur. 🙂 Luckily, Best Buy does not care how old your technology is or where you bought from, they will recycle it! They take everything old screens, computers, batteries, phones, monitors, televisions, and a ton more! Best Buy actually has a complete list of what they recycle on there website. You can also look their by state to see what your state restrictions entail.

One thing that I felt was important enough to add to this post is a video that explains what happens with all the electronics you take to Best Buy to be recycled. With the concern about identity theft and personal information being stolen, I wanted to see how that is prevented when you have your computer or CPU recycled. After seeing this video, I’m am sure you will agree with me, that personal information getting into the wrong hands will not be an issue. They actually remove each hard drive, erase it, then the hard drive is destroyed with a hole-punch (cracking it in half), lastly it is put through a shredder with the rest of the shredder. Um, I do not think my personal information will be going anywhere! This video really is amazing though.
