Since Megan started elementary school 5 years ago, I wanted to immediately start her off by going to school a little greener. I was already very aware of our landfills and try very hard to contribute to it unnecessarily. My sister and brother-in-law have a boy who is a couple of years older than Megan so I was very lucky to get some great tips from them on what they do for their son. My brother-in-law is not only super green, he also researches everything to death.
Save the Plastics
I was very happy when they told me about ReUsies, reusable snack and sandwich bags. Our motto in our house has been to save the plastics for quite sometime, so not throwing away all those plastic sandwich bags each day has been wonderful. Plus it is super cost effective! These bags are awesome! Some of these bags I have been using for 5 years, so trust me when I say they are durable! They are also super easy to clean. For years I have been running them through the dishwasher with our dishes, which was perfect but lately we have noticed them not getting quite so clean lately. Now we just through them in with our laundry and they come out perfect every time.
They have a huge variety of colors and patterns that makes them easy to be for boys or girls. I was sent the Peace Flower design, which was really happy to receive since I already have that pattern for Anna. She uses them for preschool to take her lunch there. Ethan’s ReUsies are green with frogs on them. I do not think they have that pattern any more but there are a ton of adorable boy ones to choose from.
I always pack the kid’s sandwiches in the large sandwich bag and use the snack bag for items such as carrots, celery sticks, pretzels, etc. They kids love them and they are very easy for them to open. This I am grateful for since Anna and Ethan are still smaller it is sometimes more of a challenge for them to open containers.

Of course, Architects love the greenness. My husband would be thrilled to have these. “Which Came First?”, is about the only pattern I think he’d feel comfortable taking to the office.
