I was lucky enough, tongue in cheek, to have braces not once but twice. Getting braces on as a ten-year-old was exciting at first, until the pain started. My teeth hurting from braces and the sores I got in my mouth got old very fast. I remember it especially being painful after an adjustment and when I had to go through the phase of wearing rubber bands.

Sore from Braces?

Thanks to a recent Mini Bloggy Boot Camp presented by The SITS Girls, I was introduced to some great information about Invisalign. They are a great alternative to the traditional metal braces for straight teeth, and a way to avoid getting sore from braces. If you have ever worn braces, then you are probably aware of some of the associated pain, not just from your teeth moving but from the braces themselves. I had plenty of sores on the inside of my cheeks not only from the braces, but from the metal wire if it was not cut down far enough. I had a ton of containers with wax to put over the brace or wire that was causing the pain.

Be assured, there are no wires or metal braces with these clear braces to cause mouth sores. What you to get with Invisalign is a series of removable “aligners” that are used to gradually straighten teeth without metal or wires. You also usually require fewer office visits, shorter appointments and no “emergency” visits for broken wires or brackets.

Removable aligners have come a long way over the years. The can be used to take care of a full range of dental issues, from the most simple to the very challenging. They offer a full array of clear aligner treatments for most types of teeth straightening issues. They are fully effective for adults and teens.

Invisalign is such a great alternative to traditional braces for teens. Invisalign does not interfere with their active lifestyles, or cause any type of self-consciousness. Plus there are no food restrictions since the aligners can be removed while eating. Because of that, it is much easier to keep teeth clean since food does not get caught up in a bracket or wire.

Have you considered Invisalign for yourself or your teen? Clear braces cost about the same as traditional braces, and if you have insurance for braces they will pay the same on Invisalign. As with any medical procedure, consider getting a second opinion if you are told you or your child is not a candidate for Invisalign. Not all dentists and orthodontists are certified Invisalign providers. See the Doctor Locator to find a certified provider in your area.

While the cosmetic aspect is a big appeal to the invisible braces, I wonder how comfortable they really are. I do like the idea that there’s no fuss on and off.

  2. This is really curious! I want to check this out!

  3. My top teeth are pretty straight. I wonder if I could just get my bottom teeth done?
