Summer is Officially Here – School’s Out

Wow, that was a quick school year! Summer is officially here for us, elementary school ended yesterday and high school today. Now my kids will be will be 5th graders and a high school sophomore! Also, with the last day’s of school this week, it has been a chaotic week. Do you cram a bunch of stuff into your final days of not having kids home too?

Summer is officially here - school is out!!

Within this week, I’ve had a social media project, classroom party, teacher gifts, car repair, vet visit, and my birthday! Not to mention, the normal family routines to manage. All week long I’ve planned on writing a couple of blog posts, which ended up being only a sentence or two until today.

My son’s 4th-grade teacher loves owls, and in fact, has a fantastically decorated classroom. Another mom contacted me a week ago about this idea she got from Pinterest with a tree and student thumbprints. The thumbprints were then made into owls. I have to say our representation of it turned out really nice!

The kid’s classroom party was a total hit. There were several activities planned with the last one being a water balloon fight. Of course, Anna had to go the extra mile and pop a water balloon on herself!

After the party festivities, all the kids received a cold treat to eat by the playground and then we took a picture of the two 4th-grade classes together.

Summer is officially here - School is out...now what?

Summer for the kids started off on a fun note today. We had another set of twins over and all four of the kids rode bikes, played with water guns, had a water balloon fight and jumped on the trampoline. Plus, the weather cooperated, staying sunny and hot. The perfect weather for getting hot.

So now what?

Next week both kids start swim team practice, as well as Anna, has two weeks of basketball camp. Megan will start LaCrosse Camp the second week of June. I don’t want to overbook the summer, but I know from experience my kids definitely need the activity. Both swim team and LaCrosse Camp go through mid-July. We will then plan some camping trips with my sister and her family.

I’d love to hear your summer plans! Share them with me below.

  1. We don’t have any plans yet outside of just enjoying the outdoors. We live in a super safe area, so the kids just sort of run around. They’re all tweens, so they can be trusted.

  2. I’m glad the kids had a good time at the classroom party. Their summers started off so well! I hope the swim practices and sports camps are fun too!

  3. My daughters still have a few days left of school, but they’re just about done. We are not really sure what we’re going to do this summer yet. I know going to the zoo is top on our list.

  4. Wow! It really looks like you kicked off summer vacation off on the right foot! We have a few roadtrips planned for this summer, which we are totally excited for.

  5. Today was our last day and it was pouring down rain when we did pick up… i felt like… this was a perfect way to end the year, ha ha . Now we are ready for summer!

  6. We are out of school too and the last week is always packed too. We have a couple of trips planned this summer and plenty of swimming.

  7. My plans mostly include some gorgeous Florida beaches! I can’t wait to start the relaxing.

  8. We’ve got one more week and then our kids are done. I hope I can keep them occupied all summer!

  9. We still have one more month until school is out here. My son is in high school so I don’t have to keep him as occupied. We do have a big move coming up in August so that will help keep him busy.
